I went to the build configurator and it’s not up yet. Checked Cars.com and Cargurus and they have inventory
Pricing and trim breakdown:

Anyone considering it?

Have at it, no better place to configure than the source itself.

With apologies to that excellent Tritan fella and sm70: people who buy a sedan over a 5-door perplex me. But that seems to be cheaper than a new decently-optioned GTI in my area. I don’t know... I guess I can see the appeal.

Thanks! seems very straight forward, no options at all. Guess they’ve really simplified the trims.

Yeah, most brands don’t do optional extras here, except the very expensive ones.
My uncle had a joke about it. “There’s no such thing as a fully-loaded BMW”
Meaning there's always more options.

It’s cheaper and i believe the Jetta has more rear legroom than the GTI but the GTI has slightly bettter headroom in the rear.
To compare the mid level 35th anniversary trim(costs $27,890 with the manual and $28,690 ) to a mid level
GTI Rabbit or SE level GTI it’s several thousands cheaper
DCC adaptive suspension for example is standard on the GLI 35th anniversay but is $860 package on the SE and not available on the Rabbit Edition

The GTI (now) has to be imported from Germany.... which makes it
more expensive
less profitable.

That reminds me. Is there an Ohio Oppo with a white GTI?

I love the looks of that sedan. I can totally see that if I was in a position to be buying one new that I could go for a sedan.

Sedans tend to be cheaper to insure than hatchbacks.

I find the rear quarter oddly proportioned. It almost seems like six or so inches too long

Honestly, I’d probably just spend the extra money and buy an S3.

I prefer hatchbacks too. My MK7 Golf is great.
From 2011-2018, the Jetta was cheapeaned up a lot compared to the Golf (older platform, worse interior, etc). From what I’ve read, the new Jetta is finally the Golf’s equal. So... I guess now the only question is if you prefer a sedan, hatchback, or wagon.

If you grew up somewhere that hatchbacks and wagons are constantly having their rear glass smashed to take whatever was left in them even if it was a book of burned CDs or a bag of dirty clothes on the way to the laundromat while you stopped in the mini mart to grab snacks you learn to appreciate locking trunks.

I bought mine because I'm a cheapskate... To buy a GTI in the same condition as my GLI would have been thousands more. GLIs depreciate harder and faster than their 5 door brethren. If money wasn't a factor I would 10/10 rather GTI.

That’s about how much I’m looking to pay for a used Odyssey to carry my kids around. Nine more years and they’ll all be out of college. Then I can look for something like this. I’m such a dad....

I don’t like the "5 door" GTI. Its a shame that enough people did so they killed the proper "3 door" GTI. Going to test drive one of these jettas Monday, if its any good I may have to pick one up, if not I am giving up on VW and moving up to Audi.

Except no manual S3 and an aging platform. I'd wait for a Golf 8 GTi or R, depending on the packaging in the end, but this is an interesting alternative, especially if you like sedans.

Has anyone driven these yet? Looks like a great fun family car if you can get over the VW ownership taboo.
